Comparison of the Benefits of Coaching Intensive Training© and Instructor Led Training

At Performance Management Consultants(tm) we do not believe that training per se is an effective way to improve individual productivity or organizational performance. If a plan does not exist to implement the skills once the classroom portion of training is over, experience has taught us that there is almost no chance that the user of such training will ever carry into effect what they have learned.

For many years the attitude has prevailed, "If we train the they will change". This has not proven to be true since we have found that fewer than 10% of most "trainees" even use what they have learned in training within 45 days after completion of the training.

We prefer to say, "If we coach them, they will improve". The simple truth is that training without a coach to help users implement what they have learned in the field is a poor investment of time and resources. Line managers have traditionally been held responsible for the implementation of training methodologies, but they have neither the time nor the mandate to perform this function. In addition, they usually know no more than the users themselves.

Coaching Intensive Training© was designed to alleviate the most distressing enigma of training - the fact that people don't use what they have learned. This approach does this by creating a fundamental change in the training process which puts the responsibility on the trainer to insure that what is learned in the classroom is implemented in the field.
